Today, all students began their English Workshops, embarking on projects such as making pop-up books, a magazine, a model of their dream school, and much more! English Workshops are lessons with English Teachers in which students work on practical projects over the course of four days, before presenting their work to all students – and parents! – on Friday afternoon.
This week, the workshops are Pop-up Books, Horizons, Magazine, Fab Lab, Make Your Menu, Creative Writing, and Dream School.
Some of the workshops focus on arts and crafts. In Horizons, students will work together to design a panorama of the London skyline. In Pop-up Books, students are creating characters and scenes from paper which literally leap out of the page. And, in Dream School, the class will work together to design their perfect school, before creating a model.
Many of the workshops help students to improve their writing in different and more creative ways to what is found in a typical English lesson. In Magazine, students will work together to produce one Marymount Magazine, with different teams responsible for different sections, such as Fashion, Travel, and Science. In Creative Writing, the class will produce one story between them, each contributing different characters, events, and ideas. Eventually, it will be published as an ebook! In Make Your Menu, students will design their perfect dinner menu, including starters, mains, and desserts.
Finally, for those interested in science and technology, in the popular workshop Fab Lab, students design and build new inventions. This includes physically building the items and programming them on the computer.
Workshops will continue throughout the week. All parents are encouraged to join us at 15:30 on Friday to see the final presentations from each class!
