Wednesday Excursion to Kew Gardens.

Our first Wednesday excursion was to the beautiful Kew Gardens.

Kew Gardens has the largest and most diverse collection of living plants in the world. There was so much to see and to learn. Marymount students got to explore the many plants from different continents in large glass houses. A popular plant was the Vanilla plant as many of our students love the taste of vanilla ice cream, so seeing where vanilla comes from was very informative. Other plants of interest were plants that had healing properties in them that are used in medicines.

Around the different parts of the garden there were a few animals. The most beautiful animal that the students spotted was the peacock, who put on an excellent display on of his beautiful, colourful feathers for us.

Not only did the students get to explore the gardens and the glass houses, they also got to climb up to the Tree Top Walkway, a high rise walk around the top of the trees. It meant that everyone could see up close the different types of leaves on different types of trees and see the whole of Kew Gardens from a birds eye view. Each class group had a booklet full of questions to answer about the garden.

It was a really lovely excursion, being out in the fresh air but also learning about nature!
